The United States Secret Service has launched an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred in Washington, D.C., during activities linked to the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton.

In a statement, the agency said it is working alongside the Metropolitan Police Department to establish how the incident unfolded, which happened close to a designated security screening area.

Reports indicate the shooting took place near the main metal detector checkpoint used for guest entry, prompting an immediate security response from officers stationed at the venue.

Anthony Guglielmi, Chief of Communications for the Secret Service, confirmed via the agency’s official X account on Sunday that all individuals under protection, including the president and first lady, were not harmed.

He also confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody while investigations continue to determine the full circumstances of the incident.

“We will provide updates as they become available and confirm information. Our teams are on the ground assessing the situation and investigating. All of our protectees are safe,” he said.
