Nigeria’s Super Falcons have moved up one place to 36th in the latest FIFA women’s world rankings released on Tuesday.
The improvement comes even though the team did not feature in one of the international break windows considered in the ranking review period.
In the previous rankings released in December 2025, the Nigerian side was placed 37th globally. During the review period, the Falcons played only a double-header friendly against Cameroon in March and did not take part in the most recent women’s international window in mid-April.
The team lost the first leg of the friendly fixtures to Cameroon but bounced back with a win in the second meeting against the Indomitable Lionesses.
Despite the modest activity, Nigeria maintained its status as Africa’s top-ranked women’s team, sitting more than 20 places ahead of second-placed South Africa, which is ranked 58th globally.

Ghana, Morocco, and Zambia complete the top five African women’s teams in that order.
On the global stage, Spain retained the number one position, followed by the United States. England climbed above Germany to secure third place, while Japan moved up to fifth, overtaking Sweden, France, and Brazil.
The next FIFA women’s world rankings update is scheduled for June 16.
