Prominent figures from Nigeria’s political and business sectors on Saturday gathered in Onicha Olona, Delta State, for the burial ceremony of Sir Israel Ogbue, father-in-law of billionaire entrepreneur Tony Elumelu.

The funeral attracted high-profile attendees, including Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, and Senator Ned Nwoko.

Also present were members of the House of Representatives such as Victor Nwokolo and Ngozi Okolie, alongside Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly Arthur Akpowowo, Majority Leader Emeka Nwaobi, APC State Chairman Chief Solomon Arenyeka, and Aniocha North LGA Chairman Bazim Chinyere. Other dignitaries, party leaders, and business associates also attended the solemn event.

A night of tribute was held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Onicha Olona, where family members and associates described the late Ogbue as a man known for peace-building, integrity, and dedication to service.

Officiating the service, the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Asaba, Rt. Rev. Kingsley Obuh, described the deceased as a committed Christian who contributed meaningfully to both church and community development.

He urged attendees to reflect on the values the late Ogbue upheld, saying they should “reflect on the virtues of the deceased and live lives marked by service, humility, and faith” while stressing that “true legacy lies in a positive impact on others.”
