First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has declared that Nigeria is moving into an era of prosperity after completing the phase of economic reforms.

She made the statement on Saturday at the South-East Women Mega Empowerment Rally in Enugu State, organised by the All Progressives Congress Women Mobilisation Directorate in support of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign.

Speaking in Pidgin English, the First Lady said her husband had asked her to convey the message that the country was now moving towards economic prosperity.

“Mr President say make I greet everybody. You know why? He say make I tell una say we don do reforms, na prosperity we dey now,” she said.

She compared the country’s anticipated economic progress to the final stages of pregnancy, saying Nigerians were approaching the point where they would begin to enjoy the results of government policies.

“You know that when a woman is pregnant, e go dey wonder when the pikin go come. You know that we are pushing into prosperity,” she added.

Remi Tinubu also defended the APC administration’s empowerment programmes, saying the party was taking action rather than merely making promises.

She contrasted the government’s approach with what she described as the opposition’s tendency to make repeated promises without delivering on them.

She said, “We no dey talk, talk, talk and talk alone. I hear una say, talk and do. And you know say e dey pain dem o but e dey sweet us.”

As part of the rally, the First Lady announced plans to provide N200,000 each to 250 women in the South-East to establish businesses.

She also unveiled a separate empowerment initiative for 250 elderly women, scheduled for December 17. According to her, the programmes would extend benefits to 750 women across the region’s five states.

“Come December 3rd, we go give all of una senatorial candidates money to empower on World Disability Day,” she said.

She explained that the elderly women’s initiative would be carried out through APC candidates in the region and urged them to ensure that the programme was implemented.

The First Lady said she had visited the South-East several times since her husband became president and remained committed to supporting women in the region.

She called on residents to support President Tinubu’s re-election bid and vote for other APC candidates seeking elective positions at the state and federal levels.

“Make una vote my husband and others for January 16. Like my sister said, from top to where? Bottom,” she said.

Remi Tinubu added that she and her husband had spent the past four years engaging with Nigerians across the country and intended to sustain the outreach.

She also challenged those at the gathering to identify comparable empowerment initiatives organised by other presidential candidates.
