Joseph Aloba, the father of late singer Mohbad, has renewed his demand for a court-backed DNA test to confirm the paternity of his grandson, Liam.

Speaking in a recent interview, Aloba voiced concern over delays in the legal process, accusing the magistrate court of failing to compel Wunmi Aloba to present the child for testing.

Earlier in February, a magistrate court in Ikorodu approved three separate DNA tests to be conducted abroad—two in the United Kingdom and one in the United States. The matter was subsequently adjourned to April 7, with both parties expected to supervise the collection of samples.

However, Aloba said he had anticipated a stronger directive from the court, rather than being advised to reach a mutual agreement with Mohbad’s widow.

“There is nothing like that, even the magistrate court said I should go and rub minds with Mohbad’s girlfriend, that she should allow me. By hearing that, at least I was expecting them to compel her to submit that child because we are looking for the truth, nothing but the truth,” he said.

“I am pleading to the whole world, I just want to be sure of my grandson’s paternity, whether or not he belongs to me.”

Aloba also revealed that he had appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene, while accusing the court of mishandling aspects of the case.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, following an injection administered by an auxiliary nurse. He was buried the next day but exhumed on September 21 for an autopsy.

In May 2024, pathologists disclosed that the cause of death could not be established due to the level of decomposition.

Since then, Aloba has insisted that his son should not be reburied until the issue of Liam’s paternity is conclusively resolved. In September, the court granted his request, directing that the DNA test be conducted at a government-approved facility.
