A 55-year-old motorist escaped unhurt after a train collided with his Honda car at the PWD railway crossing in Lagos, leaving the vehicle badly damaged.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority disclosed that the accident involved a train travelling towards Agege and a Honda car with registration number EKY 902 JT.
Following the collision, LASTMA officials, working with security personnel, rescued the driver and removed the wrecked vehicle from the railway tracks, allowing the train to proceed with its journey.
However, traffic congestion persisted around the PWD area despite efforts to clear the tracks and restore movement.
The agency said the damaged car was subsequently handed over to security personnel to support investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commended the agency’s officials and security operatives for their prompt intervention, noting that their coordinated response demonstrated the importance of collaboration during emergencies involving railway lines and adjoining roads.
He urged motorists to exercise caution when approaching railway crossings and areas reserved for train movement.
Bakare-Oki warned drivers against attempting to cross railway tracks when a train was approaching or already in motion, stressing that “reckless disregard for railway safety protocols could precipitate devastating and irreversible consequences”.

LASTMA also called on motorists and other road users to comply with traffic regulations and railway safety instructions.
The agency emphasised that “the preservation of human life must remain paramount in all road-use decisions”, adding that responsible driving and adherence to safety guidelines were necessary to prevent avoidable accidents.
The incident comes months after the Nigerian Railway Corporation reported injuries to 26 passengers and crew members following a train incident along the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor in March.
The NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, said the incident occurred near Asham Station after a loud bang was heard as part of the train formation collided.
According to him, the Kaduna–Abuja service, identified as KA-2, departed Rigassa Station at 7:15 a.m. and arrived at Jere Station at 8:52 a.m., one minute ahead of schedule.
