The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, has denied allegations circulating on social media that he is involved in any plan to impeach Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
In a statement released through his media aide, Adeola Oloko, the monarch described the report as untrue and misleading, insisting it had no basis in fact.
“To say the least, this is a lie.” Ladoja said, stressing that traditional rulers do not have constitutional powers to remove elected officials.
“You don’t have to be a former governor or a distinguished senator to know that a monarch has no power to impeach a local government chairman, let alone a state governor.”
He also expressed concern over conflicting political narratives emerging in the state, referencing earlier claims made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose that there was a plot against him.
“Now, it is the Olubadan who is allegedly planning to impeach the governor. So, who is fooling who?” the statement added.
The monarch urged the public to disregard the rumours, warning against attempts to drag the traditional institution into partisan politics.
He also reiterated that the Olubadan stool remains focused on peace and stability in Ibadanland.

Meanwhile, earlier statements from the palace had also dismissed suggestions of any disagreement between the monarch and the state government.
“We wish to make it abundantly clear that there is no rift between Kabiyesi and Olori omo oba of Ibadanland,” the palace had said previously, adding that the Olubadan is in good health and fully carrying out his duties.
The palace further clarified that arrangements around a postponed coronation ceremony had been misunderstood, stressing that the situation was amicable and properly communicated.
