The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that 12 people were killed following a deadly attack by gunmen in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North Local Government Area.

In a statement released on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, it was confirmed that the victims included 10 men and two women. The police also revealed that two additional bodies were later discovered during ongoing search operations.

According to the statement, the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. on March 29, 2026, after the command received reports of gunshots in the community. The Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, led a team of officers to the scene to restore calm and assess the situation.

“The Commissioner of Police, Plateau State Command, CP Bassey Ewah, psc(+), FCAI, MSPSP, commiserates with the people of Angwan Rukuba Community, Jos North Local Government Area, over the unfortunate attack which took place on March 29, 2026, and claimed the lives of twelve (12) persons—ten (10) men and two (2) women. As of this morning, an additional two corpses were found while our men were combing the bushes and trailing the suspects for possible arrest.”

The police added that a joint security operation is ongoing, with officers combing nearby areas in search of the attackers, while efforts to apprehend those responsible have been intensified. The bodies of the victims have been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy, while investigations continue.

Authorities also noted that the identities of the victims are still being confirmed, assuring the public that justice will be pursued.

“While the identities of the victims are still being verified, the CP assures the families of the deceased that investigations are underway to track the perpetrators of this dastardly act and ensure that the law takes its course.”

Residents have been urged to provide any useful information that could assist in tracking down the suspects through designated contact numbers provided by the command.

In addition, the police confirmed that extra personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further unrest and maintain order.

“The Plateau State Police Command grieves with the Government of Plateau State and the people of Angwan Rukuba Community. Additional deployment of manpower and operational assets has been made to the area, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, to forestall any further breakdown of law and order.”
