Public servants across the federal, state and local government levels are set to commence a three-day nationwide warning strike on Friday, October 2, 2026, over unresolved demands by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council.
The council directed workers to withdraw their services from midnight on Friday until Sunday, October 4, according to a circular issued on Thursday.
The notice, signed by the council’s National Secretary, Comrade Olowoyo Gbenga, said the decision followed the Federal Government’s failure to provide a satisfactory response to demands submitted to President Bola Tinubu on September 21.
Among the workers’ demands is a reduction and stabilisation of petrol prices at N500 per litre, as well as the payment of wage awards to public servants across the three tiers of government.
The council is also seeking an upward review of workers’ salaries and allowances to address the economic difficulties facing public servants.
Another major demand is the immediate constitution of a committee to begin negotiations for a new national minimum wage before January 2027.
The council had earlier informed the Presidency that the government’s response would determine whether it would proceed with the proposed warning strike.
However, the latest circular stated that the lack of a response had prompted the council to activate the planned industrial action.
The council called on public servants working in federal, state and local government institutions to participate in the strike, citing the rising cost of living and increasing economic pressure on workers and their families.

It also said the difficult economic conditions were affecting vulnerable Nigerians, stressing the need for collective action by workers.
The warning strike is scheduled to begin at midnight on Friday, October 2, and end on Sunday, October 4.
The council urged public servants to mobilise for the action, maintaining that the challenges confronting workers required a coordinated response.
