Veteran gospel singer Onos Brisibi has passed away at the age of 55, leaving behind a legacy in Nollywood and gospel music.

Her family confirmed her death in a statement released on Thursday, revealing that she died on March 23, 2026, after a prolonged illness.

In the tribute, the family described her as a devoted Christian whose music touched countless lives across generations.

“The Brisibi family announces with deep sorrow the passing of Esteemed Sister Onos Nancy Brisibi, who transitioned to glory on 23rd March 2026 after a protracted illness,” the statement reads.

“Onos Nancy Brisibi was a devoted Christian, a gifted songstress, and a passionate praise and worship leader whose angelic voice touched many lives as she spread the gospel through music.

“She will be remembered as a beautiful, fun-loving woman with a heart of gold, whose faith, warmth, and kindness left lasting impressions on all who knew her.”

The family added that funeral arrangements would be communicated in due course.

Brisibi is survived by her daughter, Sarah, her mother, siblings, extended family, friends, and members of her church, LoveWorld Ministries.

Her death has triggered an outpouring of grief within the entertainment industry. Actress Stella Damasus expressed sadness over the loss, saying it “hurts,” while veteran broadcaster Emma Ugolee described the development as “devastating.”

Ugolee also revealed that he had only just learned about her critical condition while preparing a tribute to celebrate her contributions.

Born on November 20, 1970, in Aladja, Delta State, Onos began singing at the age of nine and later became one of Nollywood’s most sought-after soundtrack voices.

She lent her vocals to several iconic films, including Domitilla, Mortal Inheritance, Deadly Passion, Blood Money, Deadly End, and Shame.

Her voice also featured on Lagbaja’s popular track Gra Gra, further cementing her place in Nigeria’s music and film history.
