Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, widely known as MC Oluomo, has reaffirmed that he remains the National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers following the reported takeover of its Abuja secretariat by Tajudeen Baruwa.

Baruwa had earlier seized control of the union’s headquarters, citing court rulings he claimed favoured his faction, intensifying the ongoing leadership crisis within the NURTW.

Responding on Monday via his Instagram page, Akinsanya described the move as a “forceful takeover” and insisted that legal processes are still underway.

“The National President wishes to intimate members of the union and the general public that he was not a defendant in the purported judgment.

“The judgment has been appealed, and a stay of execution has been duly entered.

“He has not engaged with Mr Baruwa or any individual, aware that cases are pending in court.

“The situation is under the control of security agencies.

“Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya remains the National President of NURTW,” the statement read.

He also urged members to stay calm, peaceful, and law-abiding amid the ongoing dispute, stressing that his leadership of the union continues.

The development comes in the midst of a prolonged power struggle, with both factions claiming control of the NURTW following a series of court rulings and internal conflicts.

Baruwa, who led the takeover, stated that his actions were in compliance with decisions from the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal, which affirmed his position as union president. He noted that his faction had waited nearly two years for the rulings to be implemented.

The takeover reportedly increased tensions at the secretariat, with Baruwa alleging that one of his supporters was attacked during the process, even as he maintained that the operation was peaceful and aligned with court directives.
