The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has expressed gratitude to those who reached out to her family following the death of her mother, Professor Kamene Okonjo.

In a message shared on Sunday, the WTO chief said she had received an overwhelming number of condolence messages and tributes in honour of her late mother.

She thanked her friends and followers for their support, noting that their kind words had been appreciated by the entire family.

“Today, I have been overwhelmed with messages of condolences and tributes to my wonderful mother. I just want to thank all my friends and followers and let you know how appreciative my entire family and I are of your support,” she wrote.

Okonjo-Iweala also reflected on her mother’s life, saying the family was thankful for the years they spent with her and that she had enjoyed a quality life until the end.

“My mother lived a quality life till the end and we are very grateful we had her for so long. May her soul rest in perfect peace,” she added.
