The Chairman of the Fusengbuwa ruling house in Ijebu-Ode and former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, Otunba Abdulateef Owoyemi, has confirmed that popular Fuji musician Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, known as KWAM1, has submitted the official Fusengbuwa lineage data form required of aspirants seeking the Awujale throne.

Owoyemi disclosed this in an exclusive conversation with PUNCH on Wednesday.

He said the family has also convened an emergency meeting for Thursday at Ile Nla, the ruling house’s ancestral home, to review the singer’s interest in the revered kingship position.

The Awujale stool became vacant in July following the passing of Oba Sikiru Adetona at age 91.

Owoyemi noted that the submission of the royal lineage data form is the foundational step for anyone seeking to contest.

According to him: “The essence of filling the royal lineage data form, where contenders trace their genealogy back seven generations to establish their membership in the Fusengbuwa ruling house, is to prevent outsiders from claiming the throne.”

He explained that once a prospective contender is verified as a legitimate member of the ruling house, they may then obtain the expression of interest form. Although the collection window officially closed on Friday, December 5, Ayinde was granted an additional five days, which expired on Wednesday, December 10.

Owoyemi confirmed the musician met the extended deadline.

“Yes, he has sent someone to submit his form, and the family will meet on Thursday to discuss the nomination issues,” he said.

The lineage form circulating online indicates that Ayinde traces his ancestry to the Setejoye family unit of the Jadiara ruling house through his father, Adisa Adesanya Anifowoshe. The document was reportedly endorsed by Omooba Adetayo Oduneye, head of the Setejoye unit.

Although KWAM1 is widely known to be connected to the Fidipote ruling house—through which he holds the prestigious title Olori Omooba of Ijebu land—his decision to contest via the Jadiara unit of the Fusengbuwa ruling house has generated widespread debate.

The Awujale throne traditionally rotates among four ruling houses, and it is currently the turn of the Fusengbuwa lineage to produce the next monarch.

Ayinde insists he has ancestral ties to both Fidipote and Fusengbuwa families, making him eligible to vie for the throne. However, his claim is being challenged by some family heads.

In a letter making the rounds online, the Chairman of the Jadiara ruling house, Otunba Akinola Odedina, dismissed Ayinde’s assertions.
He stated: “I can say categorically that Wasiu has no genealogical lineage to Jadiara Royal House. The Chairman of Fusengbuwa Ruling House may have given him a nomination form, expecting him to authenticate his roots. We have waited for him to present his documents to prove his linkage to Jadiara Royal House. He is yet to show up.”

Similarly, the Chairman of the Bubiade royal family, Alhaji O. B. Yusuf, said neither the singer nor his father belongs to their lineage.

He declared: “I want the public to know that we don’t have any Anifowose from our family. We have waited for him to present his documents to prove his lineage, but he is yet to show up.
As the head of the Bubiade Royal Family unit, I think it is necessary to release this information because of circulating rumours suggesting that I signed Otunba Wasiu Ayinde Anifowose’s family membership form.”

The Fusengbuwa ruling house is expected to address these emerging disputes when it meets to deliberate on Ayinde’s aspiration.
