Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have reportedly abducted 12 females in Mussa district, Askira-Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.

The victims were said to have been kidnapped on Saturday around 5pm while returning from their farmlands.

Confirming the incident to PUNCH Online on Sunday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Nahum Daso, stated that an investigation has been launched.

“There was an abduction yesterday in Askira-Uba. 12 females were abducted by suspected Boko Haram terrorists when they were coming back from the farm,” Daso said.

He urged calm as security efforts continue, adding, “The details are still sketchy, but I can confirm that efforts are underway. When done, it will be made public.”

Residents in the area expressed concern and appealed for urgent action to secure the release of the abducted females. A community member who asked not to be named told PUNCH Online, “The news got to us at 5pm yesterday when their relatives could not tell their whereabouts. As a community, we have notified our elected representatives and traditional leaders, including security agencies.”

The incident comes amid a surge in abductions across Nigeria, with states such as Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger still grappling with cases of school students being held by bandits.
