Nollywood star Mary Njoku has spoken out in support of her younger colleague, Regina Daniels, following the latter’s revelation that she got married at just 17.

Earlier, Regina had addressed her husband, billionaire Ned Nwoko, in a viral post, admitting she once did drugs because it was what he wanted. She then questioned if she was already into drugs when she got married at 17.

Reacting to the controversy, Mary Njoku took to Instagram to express empathy for Regina, reflecting on how young and inexperienced most teenagers are at that age. She noted that at 17, she was still learning basic hygiene, stressing that many 17-year-olds are not yet mature enough for adult responsibilities.

“She was 17. Teen. At 17, I was still figuring out personal hygiene. Some 17-year-old boys are still learning to wipe their asses. But now, we expect perfection from her because she is on camera?” Mary wrote.

The Iroko TV boss went on to criticize the culture of bringing up people’s past mistakes to justify pain or judgment. She encouraged social media users to show compassion when people express distress rather than wait until it’s too late.

“Let’s stop digging up people’s pasts just to justify their pain. Let’s normalise helping when someone cries for help, not when it’s too late,” she added.
