Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed sadness over the death of former governor Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, who passed away on Sunday, just days before his 90th birthday.
In a statement released in Ibadan, Makinde described Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo as one of the most brilliant administrators Oyo State and Nigeria have ever produced. He praised his achievements and intellect, referring to him as a “mathematical guru and patriotic leader.”
Governor Makinde said he found comfort in the fact that the state government celebrated and immortalised Olunloyo during his lifetime. “My joy is that our government honoured Pa Olunloyo while he was still alive. We named the Ibadan Airport Road and the Leisure Park after him in recognition of his outstanding service,” he said.
He extended condolences to the Olunloyo family, the people of Ibadanland, and all residents of the state.
“We have lost another icon, and this one hits differently. I was personally looking forward to celebrating Baba’s 90th birthday on April 14. But we submit to the will of God,” he added.
Governor Makinde prayed for the peaceful repose of Olunloyo’s soul and strength for the family during this period of grief.
