A source close to the team revealed on Tuesday that France head coach Didier Deschamps will leave his role after his current contract, which ends after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Didier Deschamps, 56, has had an illustrious tenure with Les Bleus, leading the team to the 2018 World Cup victory and becoming one of only three individuals to win the tournament as both a player and a manager.
Since taking over from Laurent Blanc in 2012, Deschamps has guided France to three major finals, including the Euro 2016 final and the 2022 World Cup final, although they fell short on both occasions.
As a player, Didier Deschamps captained France to their maiden World Cup triumph in 1998 on home soil. He has also set a record as the longest-serving coach in the history of the French national team.
France’s journey to the 2026 World Cup, set to be hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, will begin with European qualifiers later this year.
Deschamps’ departure will mark the end of an era for Les Bleus, as they prepare to transition under new leadership following the tournament.
