Last Thursday, the city of Ile Ife, Osun State, was agog with celebrations and fanfare as the Ooni of Ife and the entire staff and students of the Obafemi Awolowo University played host to the wife of President Tinubu, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

Senator Tinubu, who was in Ile Ife to commission a 2.7 km road named after her, alongside a grand pavilion and monument donated by the Ooni of Ife, was excited cutting the tape to the Pavillion and prayed for the royal family.

She prayed in parts, “God will continue to be with you and give you loads of joy.. This kingdom will grow in leaps and bounds and God will continually make it enjoy prosperity.”

To the queens present (Mariam and Temitope) she said, “God will reward you, all those of you doing Kabiesi well, God will reward you. Kabiesi would always tell me not to be angry with my husband. So I am also telling you not to be angry with Kabiesi. I know its not easy but God will help you. You shall not be barren, because God has made a way, you shall bear both males and females for Kabiesi.”

Moreover, Tinubu expressed concern that the campus’s natural beauty has significantly diminished over the years and called for immediate efforts to restore its environment.

She also attributed the decline in the campus’s aesthetics to a poor maintenance culture.

“I will donate N1 billion for the OAU horticultural landscape to be restored. The campus used to be beautiful while I was here. Ife is crying out for help. It used to be a beautiful campus and the beauty must be restored,” she stated.

The First Lady praised the Ooni for naming these projects after her, noting that the inauguration coincides with celebrations for the monarch’s 50th birthday.
