The Lagos State government, led by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially announced the conclusion of the 50% transport fare discount that was implemented earlier.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) issued a statement on Saturday, November 4, 2023, confirming the end of the 50% fare reduction. This discount was initially introduced in August as a measure to mitigate the impact of the fuel subsidy removal.
The statement from LAMATA specifies that the 50% fare reduction, which was in effect for a limited period, will come to an end on the upcoming Sunday. Starting from Monday, November 6th, 2023, transportation fares will return to the rates that were applicable before the adjustment made on August 2nd.
LAMATA has advised residents to be aware of this change and to prepare for the reversion to the pre-August transport fare rates. In summary, the 50% transport fare discount introduced in response to the fuel subsidy removal is set to be discontinued, and transportation fares will return to their pre-August rates.
