Kano State Government has ordered an investigation into an allegation of increasing number of deaths in the State

The State Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba stated this in an exclusive interview with abujareporters.

Muhammad Garba said Government reaction came on the heels of anxiety by residents over increasing unexplained death in the city within the past three days trending on social media.

The Commissioner said immediately the mass death report broke out over the weekend, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was informed and he directed the ministry of health to investigate the story so as to address the situation

He called on the residents to remain calm as the government is on top of the situation.

However, Solacebase, a Kano based online outfit noticed an upsurge in activities at a number of the cemetery located within the metropolis.

Solacebase reports that the trending increasing death in the ancient city of Kano is creating tension as many residents are scared and relating it to the COVID-19 pandemic as most of the deceased are middle age and old people.

The Security guard at Dandolo Cemetery at Goron Dutse, Dala Local Government Area within the metropolis told Solacebase that Over 40 corpses were buried from Friday to Monday which he described as unusual.

”On Friday we recorded 12 burial, Saturday 11, Sunday 10 and Monday as at 12.00 noon, we recorded 11,” said the cemetery guard.

”Honestly, this is unusual and I have been trying to find out from people the reasons behind this. Although some are attributing it to a new disease.”

At Kofar Mazuga cemetery close to the main abattoir, our correspondent observed that fresh graves are in large number despite security guards at the place refusing to grant an interview, noting that they were warned not to talk to Journalists.
