Engr. Ibrahim Idris, who was recently appointed as the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement in Borno State, has tragically passed away. Reports indicate that he died in his sleep on the night of Thursday, October 20, 2023, at his guest house located in the 777 Housing Estate in Maiduguri.
The exact cause of his untimely death remains uncertain. Some sources suggest that the young commissioner, who had also served as a Special Adviser on Projects Monitoring, may have succumbed to a heart attack. However, there are also suspicions of possible poisoning.
Following his demise, his body was taken to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for an autopsy to determine the precise cause of death.
Engr. Ibrahim Idris was among the 17 new commissioners sworn in by Governor Babangana Umara Zulum on August 10, 2023. This appointment was part of the state executive council for Governor Zulum’s second term, which commenced on May 29, 2023. In addition to the commissioners, three chief advisers to the governor and one permanent secretary were also sworn in during a ceremony held at the government house in Maiduguri. The Chief Judge of Borno State, Justice Kashim Zannah, administered the oaths of office during this event.
Governor Zulum expressed his delight at the ceremony, acknowledging its significance in the political history of Borno State. He emphasized the vital role the newly appointed commissioners, who make up the Borno State Executive Council, will play in assisting him in fulfilling his leadership responsibilities during his second term as the Executive Governor of Borno State.
