World Cup 2022: Saudi Arabia Defeats Argentina

Football has always been funny and shocking but this has to be one of the most shocking results in the entire history of football. Saudi Arabia has shocked the world by going through the back to defeat the South American Champions.

Argentina played well in the 1st half of the game. They got a penalty to give them the lead and later scored 3 goals which were all disallowed by VAR. Saudi Arabia was superb throughout the match. The team played with a lot of defensive tactics and intensity. Nevertheless, they made history and should be credited for their amazing performance against the South American Champions.

Some of the history that were made are:
1. Argentina have lost a World Cup match after scoring the first goal for the first time since 1958 against Germany, while it was the first time they lost after leading at half-time since the 1930 final against Uruguay.
2. Saudi Arabia became the first non-European team to beat Argentina at the World Cup since Cameroon in 1990, with Argentina winning their such 13 games since then before today. They are the first Asian team to beat Argentina in World Cup history at the fifth attempt.
3. The last three teams to beat Argentina at the World Cup have either gone on to win the competition (Germany in 2014, France in 2018) or reached the final (Croatia in 2018).

SALEM AL-DAWSARI’s superb goal gave them the lead and he is our man of the match for the game. There were contenders all over the pitch for Saudi Arabia in the second half, with goalkeeper Al Owais in particular putting in a strong showing. Al-Dawsari deserves recognition for producing the moment of sublime, world-class quality that made this result possible for Saudi Arabia. His goal will be remembered and talked about for years to come, and the 31-year-old who also scored the winner against Egypt four years ago showed up by delivering for his country.
