A Benin High Court on Thursday sentenced to death a housewife and her pastor for the murder of a senior member of staff of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Benin City, Victor Isonguyo.
The woman, Eniobong Isonguyo, was the deceased’s wife while the pastor, Udoka Ukachukwu, was the head of their church.
A police prosecutor told the court that the money and landed properties belonging to the deceased were fraudulently transferred to the pastor.
The court heard that the pastor killed the NNPC worker in his car and set it on fire with the aid of the deceased’s wife who was pregnant at the time.
The prosecution also said that the murder was to cover up accusations of infidelity, adding that the said woman took in while her husband was away.
The woman, who was four months pregnant at the time, later gave birth in Benin prison.
