The family of Pastor Shyngle Wigwe, father of the late former group managing director of Access Holdings Herbert Wigwe, has countered reports about moves to challenge the former bank chief’s will.

Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, first son Chizi and others died in a helicopter crash in Southern California on February 9, 2024.

In a statement on Tuesday signed on the family’s behalf by Emeka Wigwe, they specifically highlighted that two articles — “Family Dispute Erupts Over Estate of Late Banking Executive Herbert Wigwe” and “Herbert Wigwe’s Estate: Parents File Caveat to Disinherit Children” — both published on October 13, 2024, carried false information.

“To clarify, Pastor Shyngle Wigwe has never sought 20% of the estate of the late Herbert Wigwe, and no such request has been made by any family member. The claim in these reports that Pastor Wigwe intended to disinherit his grandchildren is entirely false and grossly misleading,” the statement said.

The family noted that as a “devoted Christian and loving father,” Pastor Wigwe always prioritises the well-being and unity of his family.

The statement added: “Any assertions to the contrary are not only unfounded but also misrepresent his values and intentions.

“The facts concerning the estate are clearly outlined in the Probate Registry, where an affidavit containing the correct details is publicly available. A basic fact-check or inquiry at the registry would have revealed this truth, preventing the spread of baseless narratives.

“During this painful period of grief, our family remains focused on healing and growing stronger together. We are not interested in engaging in public disputes or rebuttals, as there are no sides to take—only the simple truth that we are all navigating an immeasurable loss with grace and dignity.”

Pastor Wigwe recently celebrated his 90th birthday. His children, grandchildren, friends, associates and well-wishers were present to celebrate with him.
