Senator Florence Ita-Giwa has postponed the celebration of her 78th birthday following the death of the group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc Herbert Wigwe and former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Abimbola Ogunbanjo.
Wigwe, his wife Chizoba, first son Chizi, Ogunbanjo and two others died in a helicopter crash in California, United States on February 9.
A statement on Friday by the Bakassi leader, whose birthday is on February 19, addressed to friends and family, indicated that an earlier planned low-key celebration had to be postponed.
“My dear friends and family. I count myself blessed to have wonderful children, relatives, and friends like you who have stood with me through thick and thin over the years. No high point of my life would have been worth celebrating without you. I had planned a low-key but intimate celebration of my birthday this year,” said Ita-Giwa.
“However, news of the untimely passing of Herbert Wigwe a Financial TITAN, an Efik son, whose mother is an Efik woman and my dear friend Bimbo Ogunbanjo, a Corporate Law Giant, in that fatal helicopter crash has dampened my mood, and I am compelled to postpone celebrating my birthday.
“I urge you, my very dear friends and family, to bear with me even as I ask you to join me in praying for the repose of their souls.”
Ita-Giwa condoled with the families and friends of the deceased.
