The widow of late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has finally opened up in her first-ever interview since his passing.
Omowunmi Cynthia, the young mother of his only child, sat down with media personality Chude Jideonwo on With Chude, where she revealed shocking details about the struggles she has faced after her husband’s death, particularly with her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba.

“My Life is at Risk” – Wunmi Cries Out
Wunmi disclosed that life after Mohbad’s passing has been filled with threats and fear. According to her, she receives daily death threats via social media, making her feel increasingly unsafe.
Expressing her distress, she said: “We no longer feel safe. I literally get death threats almost every day in my DM, and it has gotten to a point that it’s either I speak up or I die in silence.”
Joseph Aloba’s Alleged Fight for Mohbad’s Wealth
In the emotional interview, Wunmi revealed that Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, has been actively trying to gain control over the late singer’s assets. She claimed that he had gone as far as attempting to ruin her life to achieve his goal.
Wunmi said: “My father-in-law wanted to be in control of my husband’s properties, everything that belongs to my husband, or he will go all out to destroy my life. He was even the one who initiated my marriage to Mohbad and was the happiest during our wedding.”
Allegations of Insults Against Grandson Liam
Wunmi further alleged that her father-in-law has been unkind to her son, Liam Aloba. She recounted how Joseph Aloba mocked the child’s physical appearance, claiming that the little boy looked older than him despite being nearly 60 years old.
She also mentioned a shocking claim made by her father-in-law: “He even went as far as saying my husband wanted to throw my baby inside the Third Mainland Bridge.”
The Controversial DNA Test
One of the biggest controversies surrounding Mohbad’s death has been the demand for a DNA test to confirm Liam’s paternity.
Addressing the issue, Wunmi disclosed that she has always been willing to take the test.
However, she revealed that Mohbad’s family instructed her not to disclose the results to the public once the test was completed.
Wunmi said: “I made it known that I have been ready for the DNA test. They said once the DNA is done, I should not tell the public the result.”
Mixed Reactions from Nigerians
As Wunmi’s interview gained traction online, it sparked a flurry of reactions from Nigerians who have been following the ongoing family disputes.
@chinwe_winifred sympathized with her, saying: “Lord, this is too much for this girl. May this cup pass over her. Hmm, I am happy she has come out to speak.”
@mayauwandu advised: “It is well with her. No matter what, I feel her pain as a mother. I suggest she flees Nigeria with her son and raises him in a safe country.”
@klaire_hub shared a personal experience: “For someone that has seen a widowed aunt bullied before, I can relate to everything you are going through.”
However, not everyone was sympathetic. @officialketro questioned her silence on the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death, stating: “Your husband died when you were together under the same roof, and till today you can’t tell Nigerians how it happened. The amazing thing is that people still support her.”
“Mohbad’s Father is More Interested in Property than Justice” – Netizens React
Some Nigerians also compared the situation to other inheritance disputes, highlighting how greed often takes precedence over seeking justice.
@ngee_debbie commented: “After hearing that Albert Wigwe’s father of 93 years old was dragging property with his grandchildren, I came to the conclusion that humans are wicked and evil. Mohbad’s dad is just after property, that’s all.”
@ayomiepat added: “Whatever fight is happening in that family after the boy’s death was orchestrated by his father. That man’s mind is more on his son’s properties than getting justice for his son.”
Late Mohbad’s Own Words on His Father
Prior to his untimely demise, Mohbad had opened up about his strained relationship with his father.
In a previously surfaced video, the Feel Good crooner shared that his father was not supportive of his music career.
Mohbad claimed that Joseph Aloba, who once had musical aspirations himself, was often displeased whenever he played his songs for him.
Final Thoughts
Wunmi’s revelations have added another layer of controversy to the already complicated circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
As the investigation continues, many Nigerians remain divided, with some standing firmly by Wunmi’s side and others demanding more clarity on the unresolved issues.
The late singer’s legacy remains a topic of discussion, with his widow’s latest disclosures only intensifying the ongoing debates.
As events unfold, the public eagerly awaits further developments in the battle for justice, property, and truth.
