The six-time Spanish champions currently sit second-bottom in LaLiga, with only 12 points from 17 matches. This puts them at serious risk of relegation for the first time since the 1986/87 season.
Baraja, 49, a club legend who played a key role in Valencia’s two La Liga title wins in the early 2000s, took charge in February 2023. He steered the team away from relegation that season, finishing in ninth place.
In a statement, the club said:
“The dynamic of results during this season has required a decision that has been very difficult to make, but which has been taken with the aim of turning the situation around and achieving better results.”
What’s Next for Valencia?
Valencia will face a tough challenge after the winter break, going up against reigning LaLiga champions Real Madrid on 3 January.
The club is yet to announce Baraja’s replacement as they seek to stabilize and avoid relegation from Spain’s top flight.
