Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Burna Boy has met with United States Consul General Brandon Hudspeth in Lagos to explore opportunities for deeper collaboration between the creative industries of both countries.

The meeting took place on Friday at the US Consulate General in Lagos, with discussions focusing on how the longstanding cultural relationship between Nigeria and the United States could generate economic benefits for artists, businesses and audiences.

The US mission announced the engagement in a post on its official X account, highlighting plans to strengthen commercial partnerships across the entertainment sectors of both countries.

“Consul General Brandon Hudspeth welcomed Grammy-winning superstar/artist Burna Boy to U.S. Consulate General Lagos to discuss expanding collaboration between American and Nigerian creative economies,” it reads.

The post added, “They explored ways to turn the cultural ties between the United States and Nigeria into real economic opportunity through commercial relationships among U.S. and Nigerian studios, labels, and streaming platforms; stronger intellectual property protection; artist and industry exchanges; and investment in creative infrastructure.”

The discussions highlighted several areas for potential cooperation, including partnerships between recording studios, music labels and streaming services, alongside improved intellectual property protection and exchanges involving artists and industry professionals.

Investment in infrastructure supporting creative businesses was also identified as an area that could help expand opportunities for practitioners in both countries.

The engagement comes days after Burna Boy met with the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to discuss how the creative industry could contribute to rebuilding public confidence in the police.

Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, rose to prominence with Like to Party, the lead single from his debut album, L.I.F.E, released in 2013.

Since then, the singer has established himself as a major Nigerian music export through a series of albums that have attracted international attention.

His discography includes L.I.F.E (2013), On a Spaceship (2015), Outside (2018), African Giant (2019), Twice As Tall (2020), Love, Damini (2022), I Told Them (2023) and No Sign of Weakness (2025).

Burna Boy has received 13 Grammy nominations, the most by a Nigerian artiste, and won the Best Global Music Album award in 2021 for Twice As Tall.

His meeting with the US consul general comes amid broader efforts to explore how Nigeria’s creative output can translate into stronger international partnerships, commercial opportunities and investment.
