Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully thwarted coordinated terrorist attacks in Adamawa and Borno states, demonstrating their resilience, professionalism, and superior combat skills.

In a statement obtained from the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Friday, the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant SA Atokolo, said, “In the early hours of 16 January 2026, terrorists attempted to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali Local Government Area, Adamawa State.

“Alert troops engaged the attackers, supported by reinforcements from Gulak and the Battalion Quick Reaction Force. The assault was repelled without casualties or loss of equipment, and the area was cleared and scanned for improvised explosive devices to ensure civilian and troop safety.”

Atokolo further noted that later the same day, a large-scale, multi-directional attack targeted Forward Operating Base (FOB) Azir in Borno State. “Troops, backed by the Air Component and Nigerian Army aerial platforms, met the attackers with overwhelming firepower. After a firefight lasting over an hour, the terrorists were forced to withdraw.

“During the engagement, rocket-propelled grenade fire damaged troop-carrying vehicles and the CCTV control room, but troops maintained control. Several weapons and ammunition—including a 60mm mortar tube, mortar bombs, heavy machine gun rounds, and hundreds of 7.62mm NATO rounds—were recovered.”

He added that persistent intelligence and aerial surveillance tracked fleeing terrorists, enabling follow-up operations that neutralised additional militants, inflicted heavy casualties, and significantly weakened their fighting capacity.

Atokolo emphasized that the sacrifices of OPHK personnel reflect their unwavering dedication to protecting lives, dismantling terrorist networks, and securing the North East region. He added that operations will continue until all threats are eliminated.
