Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was confirmed to be “conscious and talking” after being taken to the hospital following a concerning incident during the League Cup semifinal first leg against Liverpool on Wednesday.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury while attempting to head a corner early in the match at the Hotspur Stadium. Bentancur fell unchallenged, prompting immediate concern from his teammates and medical staff.
Play was halted for nine minutes as the midfielder received on-field medical attention and was administered oxygen. He was eventually substituted and replaced by Brennan Johnson.
In a statement shared on social media platform X during halftime, Tottenham assured fans: “We can confirm Rodrigo is conscious, talking, and will go to hospital for further checks.”
The incident comes shortly after Bentancur returned to action following a seven-game suspension for using a racial slur against teammate Son Heung-min.
Further updates on his condition are awaited as Tottenham continues their League Cup campaign.
