Media personality and former radio presenter Toke Makinwa has advised singles to pursue relationships with people whose lifestyles and financial status align with theirs, saying it helps avoid unnecessary problems.
She made the remarks while appearing on the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, with Toolz and Banky W also taking part in the discussion.
During the conversation, Makinwa argued that relationships between men and women have always involved some level of exchange, insisting that this has been the case across generations.
“I think from time immemorial, a relationship between a man and a woman has always been transactional. Right from the Garden of Eden, right from our parents’ days”.
She maintained that compatibility should also include financial realities, noting that many relationship issues stem from people pursuing partners whose lifestyles they cannot maintain.
“I am a big believer of date within your age and within your class. That way there will not be stories that touch”.
The media personality also criticised men who neglect loyal partners in search of women whose standards are beyond their means.

“You will have a good girl at home, a girl who will even make dinner with her own money when you don’t have. Yet, some men will still want to cheat on her with a woman they can’t afford”.
Makinwa added that many women fear investing in men before they become successful because wealth often reveals a person’s true character.
“Heaven forbid you end up with a guy who hasn’t blown. The day he blows, that is when you will know his true personality.
“And that scares women. Money doesn’t change people; it just reveals who a person is. So many men are treating women who sacrificed everything for them badly.”
