President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the removal of the nomination of Engr. Imam Kashim Imam to assume the role of the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

This decision was relayed by Ajuri Ngelale, the presidential spokesperson, in a statement released on Thursday.

Imam Kashim Imam, a 24-year-old, had been appointed by the President on October 13 with a renewable term of four (4) years, as per Section 2(3) of the FERMA Amendment Act, 2007.

The appointment had raised concerns, with many expressing reservations about his suitability for the position due to a perceived lack of experience.

In response to the public reactions, Ngelale announced the immediate withdrawal of Imam’s nomination. The statement did not provide specific reasons for the withdrawal, but it clarified that all other appointments to FERMA’s Board and Executive Management team remain unaffected.

The official statement stated, “President Bola Tinubu has directed the withdrawal of the nomination of Engr. Imam Kashim Imam to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).

“The President’s withdrawal of the above-mentioned nomination is effective immediately.

“All other appointments to the Board and Executive Management team of FERMA are not impacted by this directive.”
