President Bola Tinubu on Thursday swore in Nnanna Uzor Kalu as a commissioner of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC).

The brief swearing-in ceremony took place at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Tinubu had earlier, on May 5, sworn in NASC Chairman, Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, along with 12 other commissioners.

Kalu, a former lawmaker, represented Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2007 under the platform of the Alliance for Democracy (AD).

The ceremony was coordinated by the Director of Media in the Office of the President, Abiodun Oladunjoye.

Prior to the FEC deliberations, the Council observed a minute of silence in honour of the late former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Minister of Police Affairs, Chris Caleb Olubolade, who died on March 10, 2025.

Olubolade had also served as the third military administrator of Bayelsa State before transitioning into civilian politics.

Among those in attendance at the Council meeting were Vice President Kashim Shettima; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack; and Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Emmason Imabong.

Also present were several cabinet members, including the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Atiku Bagudu; and Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
