Primate Babatunde Ayodele has called on President Bola Tinubu to cancel the planned October 1 Independence Day parade, warning that proceeding with the event could pose a danger.
The cleric made the call in a video shared on X ahead of Nigeria’s Independence Day celebration.
Ayodele specifically urged the President to reconsider the parade, saying, “October 1st, President Tinubu should cancel the parade. If he attempts to go ahead with it, there is danger in it.”
The cleric also addressed Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections, advising them not to accept gifts or other incentives from politicians in exchange for their support.

He urged voters to exercise their judgement and choose candidates they believe would work in the interest of the country.
“And to Nigerians, don’t collect anything from any politician because of the election. Vote your conscience. Vote for the right people. Vote for people who will truly serve the interest of the people,” Ayodele said.
He further encouraged Nigerians to remain prayerful and vigilant.
