President Bola Tinubu has officially conferred the rank of acting inspector-general of police on Tunji Disu, following his recent appointment to lead the Nigeria Police Force.
The decoration ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja, marking Disu’s formal assumption of office after the resignation of former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
Disu, who was previously an assistant inspector-general of police, described his elevation as a great honour, attributing it to his years of dedication to policing and service to the nation.
Speaking after the ceremony, he expressed gratitude to the president for the trust placed in him, adding that Tinubu’s remarks during the event were deeply touching.
According to him, the president’s reference to his career journey and previous assignments showed that the administration closely monitors the performance of security personnel across the country.
Disu noted that the comments also served as a call to action, urging him to intensify efforts in strengthening peacebuilding and improving public safety nationwide.
He stressed that fostering stronger relationships between police officers and citizens would be a major focus of his leadership.
“It shows the president took his time to monitor officers working everywhere in the country,” he said.
