President Bola Tinubu has stated that no religion or holy scripture supports the taking of innocent lives or criminal violence.

The President made the remark on Wednesday after observing the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at Dodan Barracks in Lagos.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu described Eid-el-Kabir as a season that reflects obedience, sacrifice, compassion and complete submission to the will of Allah, as demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim.

Using the occasion to preach peace and unity, the President urged Nigerians to reject banditry, hatred and ethnic division.

“Nowhere in the holy teachings does it say you should engage in banditry or take a human life,” Tinubu said.

“The sacrifice we speak of, even from the beginning of life, where we take these lessons, teaches us that a child was replaced with an animal.

“That is the value placed on human life.”

The President encouraged citizens to embrace kindness, generosity and tolerance while extending support to the less privileged during the festive period.

“We thank Almighty Allah for making us witness another year of Eid-el-Kabir. We thank Him for His mercy, and we must learn from this season’s lessons, showing love to one another,” he said.

“No discrimination, no ethnicity, no hatred. We should share love and be generous to one another in a way that reflects the values of our country and humanity.”

Tinubu also stressed the importance of respecting the rule of law and remaining obedient to the teachings of Allah.

“It is essential that we should be very tolerant and obedient to the wishes of Allah and the rule of law, which must guide our society,” he added.

According to the President, Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and shared humanity, insisting that religious, political and ethnic differences should never be allowed to divide the country.

The Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sulaimon Abou-Nolla, also urged Muslims to uphold unity, sacrifice and generosity in line with Islamic teachings.

Among dignitaries present at the prayer ground were Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Obafemi Hamzat, Babatunde Fashola, Rilwan Akiolu, Femi Gbajabiamila and Nuhu Ribadu.
