The burial ceremony of former president, Muhammadu Buhari has attracted many dignitaries to Katsina including the sitting President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who alongside other government functionaries and military personnel received the remains of the deceased at the Umaru Musa Yar’ Adua Airport, Katsina from London where he died on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Katsina ahead of the burial of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died on Sunday in London at the age of 82.

Also among the dignitaries who are in Katsina to pay their respect  to the late former president were Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Prof Yemi Osinbajo who were elected vice presidents under different administration respectively.

Also on the A-list guests in Katsina were former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, Sultan of Sokoto Abubakar Sa’ad III, former Ogun governor Ibikunle Amosun and other notable figures.

Buhari’s burial takes place today, Tuesday at his private residence in Daura following funeral prayers at the Emir’s palace scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

On Monday, Katsina State Governor Dikko Radda led a government delegation accompanied by top security officials, including the state police commissioner, the commander of the 17 Brigade and the state director of the Department of State Services (DSS), to inspect preparations for the state burial.

Meanwhile, Governor Radda, alongside Buhari’s nephews Fatuhu Muhammad and Musa Haro, as well as former aviation minister Hadi Sirika and former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu, received guests at the deceased home in Daura.

The Emir of Daura, Farouk Umar, also hosted some visiting dignitaries at his palace ahead of the Janazah (Islamic burial prayer).

Other notable personalities who arrived Daura on Monday include, former Katsina State governor Aminu Masari, former minister of communications and digital economy, Isa Pantami and Emir of Kazaure Adamu.

Security has been heightened across the city, with local and federal authorities working to ensure a smooth and solemn farewell for Buhari.

In honour of Buhari’s death, both the federal and Katsina State governments declared Tuesday as a public holiday, allowing Nigerians to observe a day of mourning and reflection on the life and legacy of a man who served Nigeria both as a military head of state (1983–1985) and as a democratically elected president (2015–2023).

Muhammadu Buhari will be buried according to Islamic rites in Daura, his hometown.
