President Bola Tinubu has appointed Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs.

She takes over from Yusuf Tuggar, who recently stepped down from the role to pursue the Bauchi State governorship race ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a related development, the President also named Sola Enikanolaiye as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.

Odumegwu-Ojukwu had previously served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs before her elevation to the top position.

Enikanolaiye, a seasoned diplomat from Kogi State, served as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and International Relations prior to his new role. With over three decades in Nigeria’s foreign service, he has held several key positions, including Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and has represented Nigeria in cities such as Addis Ababa, Belgrade, Ottawa, London, and New Delhi.

According to the presidency, the appointments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s foreign policy framework, improve efficiency, and enhance the country’s global engagement.

“The President noted that these appointments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition Nigeria’s foreign policy architecture for greater efficiency, strategic engagement, and stronger global partnerships,” the statement read.

Tinubu also charged the new appointees to prioritise Nigeria’s national interest, promote economic diplomacy, strengthen regional stability, and ensure the protection and welfare of Nigerians abroad.
