Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, has criticised Nigerians questioning the swift rescue of Olaide Adegoke, the sister of former Power Minister Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons, describing such critics as having a “terrorist mindset.”

In a series of posts on X on Sunday, Olusegun defended the Nigeria Police Force following the rescue operation, insisting that law enforcement acted professionally in securing the release of the abducted family.

The victims were kidnapped on June 3 in Ibadan, Oyo State, and regained their freedom on June 6 after a coordinated security operation.

Reacting to online commentary suggesting inconsistencies in the handling of kidnapping cases, Olusegun expressed anger at those criticising the rescue.

“If you find yourself unhappy about the rescue of a woman and her children and jump on every conspiracy to try and downplay the efforts of law enforcement, just know you’re already a terrorist,” he wrote.

“You may not be carrying weapons yet, but your mindset and theirs are essentially the same,” he added.

He also accused some individuals of politicising the incident and using it for political advantage, describing them as “soulless” and indifferent to victims of kidnapping.

“Like I said, these soulless individuals do not care about the kidnapped kids in Ogbomoso… For them, this is political cannon fodder,” he stated.

Olusegun further rejected claims that the current administration would have responded differently when in opposition, insisting critics were being dishonest in their comparisons.

“Never in our time in opposition did we celebrate gleefully and shamelessly the misfortunes of those who don’t agree with us,” he said.

The comments come amid mixed reactions online over the rescue operation, with some Nigerians praising security agencies for acting quickly, while others argued that responses to kidnapping cases are often faster when victims are politically exposed or high-profile.

Critics continue to call for equal attention and urgency in all abduction cases, regardless of the victims’ social or political status.
