Three passengers have been confirmed dead while 10 others sustained serious injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash on the Long Bridge, opposite Mikano, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred at about 5:10pm on Friday and involved a white Mazda bus with registration number AGL891XX, a white Toyota bus with registration number KJA247YM and a white Toyota Corolla with registration number BDG867HG.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector Command, Afolabi Odunsi, 16 people were involved in the crash.
He said 10 victims, comprising nine males and one female, were injured, while three female passengers died in the accident.
Odunsi said, “A total of 16 people were involved in the crash, comprising 12 males and 4 females. Ten persons sustained injuries, comprising 9 males and 1 female, while three female victims were confirmed dead.
“The crash was reported to the FRSC at 1734hrs, and the rescue team arrived at the scene at 1740hrs, representing a six-minute response time.”
He said preliminary findings pointed to speed violation and loss of control as possible causes of the crash, adding that investigations were still underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“FRSC operatives immediately commenced rescue operations and traffic management at the scene. The crashed vehicles have been taken into custody by the MTD Police, Warewa, for further investigation,” Odunsi added.
The injured victims were evacuated to different medical facilities, with some taken to AZ Hospital in Magboro and others transferred to the Accident and Emergency Centre in Ojota for treatment.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the three deceased victims were moved to Ifo Morgue and Idera Morgue in Sagamu by personnel of the Ogun State Ambulance Service and the FRSC.

The Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those injured a quick recovery.
He urged motorists using the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to exercise extreme caution, avoid excessive speed and maintain proper control of their vehicles.
The command also advised motorists to stay within safe speed limits, remain alert and avoid any conduct that could endanger their lives or those of other road users.
