Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped to fourth place in Africa in the latest FIFA men’s world rankings released on Monday.
Despite losing one position on the continental standings, the three-time African champions retained their 26th spot in the global rankings.
Egypt overtook Nigeria to move into third place in Africa after reaching the round of 16 at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup.
The Super Eagles were absent from the tournament after failing to qualify among the 10 African nations that featured at the competition.
Morocco remain Africa’s highest-ranked team and are sixth in the world. The Atlas Lions are now just one place away from matching the highest-ever FIFA ranking achieved by an African nation — a record set by Nigeria when the Super Eagles reached fifth in the world in April 1994.
Senegal remain second on the continent, while Algeria complete Africa’s top five.

At the global level, Spain climbed to the top of the rankings after defeating Argentina 1-0 in the World Cup final on Sunday to claim their second world title.
Argentina dropped to second, with France holding on to third place and England remaining fourth. Brazil climbed to fifth, while Portugal slipped two places to seventh.
FIFA announced that the next men’s world rankings will be published on October 7.
