The Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute benefit, a black-tie extravaganza held the first Monday in May in New York to raise money for the Costume Institute (a.k.a. the fashion department), the only one of the Met’s curatorial departments that has to fund itself.
Unofficially, the night’s festivities have been called many things, including “the party of the year,” “the Oscars of the East Coast” (mostly because of the star quotient and the elaborate red carpet, in which guests pose on the grand entrance stairs to the museum).
The party signals the opening of the Costume Institute’s annual blockbuster show, and it is known for its celebrity and fashion hosts. The Met ball is like prom for the fashion industry. Celebrities’ outfits are not, on the whole, about elegance or glamour, but about demonstrating one’s skills in high fashion..
Some of the celebrities who set the red carpet on fire are:
Supermodel, Gisele Bundchen arrived in a Stella McCartney creation that had a sexy back.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds walked in looking resplendent.
For Cassie and P.Diddy, guests were wowed by what they adorned.
Singer Celine Dion dazzled in a Versace piece
The Vivienne Westwood white dress with a plunging neckline worn by Kim Kardashian is a sight for sore eyes.
Model Kylie Jenner made it to the event in a Versace piece. Her sister Kendall, appeared in Laperla
Nicki Minaj showed up at the Met Gala 2017 looking bedazzled as usual.
Kerry Washington came in a piece from Michael Kors
For ageless singer Halle Berry, it was a night to display her curves and beauty.
Actresses Elizabeth Banks came in Michael Kors, RubyRose in Burberry and SophieTurner in Louis Vuitton.
Dapper Gents! Rami Malek came in Dior, Donald Glover in Burberry and Joe Jonas in HM.
