The Nigerian Army has taken into custody a soldier attached to the 25 Brigade after an accidental discharge of his firearm reportedly left a fellow serviceman injured in Borno State.

The incident, according to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication covering the Lake Chad region, occurred around 6am on Friday at Sierra 7, a military defensive position in Damboa Local Government Area.

Citing military sources, the report said the soldier “negligently discharged his weapon” while on duty within the facility, resulting in a gunshot injury to another soldier.

The injured personnel was said to have received first aid treatment on site before being moved to a field ambulance unit for further medical care.

Makama noted that the soldier involved was immediately disarmed and detained by military authorities, pending investigation and possible disciplinary measures.
