Smart Adeyemi, who is a senator for Kogi West in the National Assembly, says that the experience of President Bola Tinubu and his vice president, Kashim Shettima, in the legislature will help them do a great job.
Adeyemi said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja. He was also a candidate for governor of Kogi for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The senator said that once someone is in the Senate, they can’t afford to fail.
“This is the first time that leaders from the field are in charge of running the government. President Bola Tinubu is a former senator, as is Vice President Kashim Shettima. Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, is also a senator.
“If you look at the states run by past senators, like Hope Uzodubma of Imo State, you’ll see that they do a great job. In the Senate, you see what Nigerians want and what they need,” he said.
Adeyemi said that Tinubu’s government would bring back to life a lot of dead economic and useful projects in the country and make real economic growth possible.
“Some of us are crazy about Tinubu because we know what he has done in the past.
“He won’t talk to you because of your race or religion. Instead, he cares about how you think and how your mind works.
“Look at Lagos now. He gave them the master plan for social and economic growth. We are sure that things will get better with this government in charge,” he said.
He said that the president could make changes to the economy that would boost output and make the naira stronger.
“We are sure that he will make the Naira stronger. He is going to improve output, which will make the currency stronger.
“He is going to make money and create jobs. Do you know how many agencies he set up when he was governor of Lagos?
“These are the things that make Lagos great right now.
He said that Kashim Shettima, the Vice-President, had a similar track record as governor of Borno.
“Shettima used to be a banker, and he has a degree in agriculture and economics. He is the one who changed the way farming is done in Borno.
“We need to look to ourselves for ways to be productive, and God gave us fertile land as a gift.
“Under Tinubu and Shettima’s guidance, Nigeria will grow and change quickly. There will be a new Nigeria.
“Everything dead or almost dead in Nigeria will come back to life.
He told the Federal Government that the country’s many solid resource reserves should be used to speed up the growth of the economy and infrastructure.
He said that the country had 32 commercially viable, stable minerals that, if used, could turn the economy around for good. Kogi is the country’s center for solid minerals, and he asked the government to put the state at the top of its list for solid minerals.
“When he was running for office, the president said that Kogi would be the center for stable minerals.
“That’s because 27 of Nigeria’s 32 solid minerals are in Kogi,” he said.
Adeyemi told Tinubu that he needs to find skilled Nigerians from all different ethnic and religious groups to help him bring his plans for the country’s growth to life.
He was sure that the president could put the right people in the right jobs because he had done it before.
“Not everyone has what it takes to be a boss. Tinubu doesn’t care about how people feel; he just thinks about what they can do,” he said.
