The Senate has officially sworn in Barr Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the Senator-elect for Kogi Central Senatorial District. She took the oath of office on November 2, 2023, after receiving her Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is now the first female Senator from Kogi State. This comes after the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, upheld her as the duly elected candidate in the Kogi Central Senatorial Election held earlier in February.

The court dismissed the appeal filed by Abubakar Ohere of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for lacking in merit. In September, the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal had nullified Ohere’s victory and declared Akpoti-Uduaghan as the rightful winner of the February senatorial poll. The Court of Appeal has now upheld that decision.
