Security forces in Kogi State have successfully rescued 16 victims, including three pastors, who were abducted by armed hoodlums in Ofu Local Government Area. The victims kidnapped after a crusade in Ejule, were freed following a daring operation by a combined team of security operatives.

The pastors, who were guest ministers at the three-day event, were ambushed around 11 p.m. on Monday, January 20, while returning to their guest house after the second day of the crusade.

Swift Security Response

Alerted to the abduction, the Nigerian Army, alongside other security agencies, launched a coordinated search, scouring the forests around Ejule-Anyigba Road. The operation lasted two nights and culminated in a fierce two-hour gun battle on Wednesday.

The kidnappers fled the scene with injuries, abandoning their captives, who were rescued unharmed.

Government’s Reaction

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Joel Salifu, praised the security forces for their bravery and swift action. In a statement through his Press Secretary, Emmanuel Unubi, Salifu said:

“We are relieved the victims were safely freed. Under Governor Ahmed Ododo’s administration, Kogi remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property. Criminals will find no safe haven in this state.”

Ongoing Efforts

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enhancing security in Kogi, with recent initiatives aimed at curbing crime and protecting residents.

This successful operation underscores the commitment of Kogi’s leadership and security forces to maintaining peace and combating crime.
