Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed security agencies to track down and arrest those behind the vandalism of parts of the Festac-Alakija Bridge.
The governor condemned the incident as criminal and unacceptable, warning that the state government would take firm action against anyone involved in the destruction of public infrastructure.
Following reports of the damage, officials from the Lagos State Office of Infrastructure inspected the bridge and confirmed that its structural integrity had not been compromised.
Sanwo-Olu said immediate remedial work would be carried out to protect the affected sections of the bridge.
“I have been informed by officials of the Office of Infrastructure who visited the bridge that the structural integrity of the bridge is intact, and remedial work will be executed immediately to protect the columns,” the governor said.
He vowed that those responsible for the vandalism would be prosecuted.
“Anyone who is found to be culpable in this horrendous, shameful and condemnable incident will surely face the law,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu urged residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities around bridges and other government facilities to security authorities.

The governor stressed that such acts had no place in Lagos, describing the destruction of public infrastructure as a threat to the safety and wellbeing of residents.
He said Lagos “has no place for such barbarism and acts of violence against our critical infrastructure and other facilities.”
The development followed the circulation of a video on social media showing several metal rods attached to the bridge allegedly removed by vandals.
The footage has generated concern among residents and online users, with calls for authorities to strengthen security around the bridge, prevent further damage and ensure the safety of motorists and other road users.
