Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has publicly endorsed his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, as a strong contender for the state’s governorship seat in 2027, describing him as the most suitable candidate for the role.
The endorsement was made during a meeting with party leaders held at the governor’s office in Alausa, Lagos, as captured in a video circulated on Monday.
Addressing those present, Sanwo-Olu offered prayers for Hamzat, expressing hope for divine guidance, strength, and peace in his personal and political journey.
“Peace of mind, peace in your family among your children, wife, spouse and everybody. That which you require, God will provide it for you: renewed strength, God Almighty will make it available for you,” he said.
The governor also thanked party stakeholders for their loyalty and reiterated his confidence in his deputy’s leadership ability.
At the end of the meeting, Sanwo-Olu embraced Hamzat and raised his hand before party members, a gesture seen as symbolic support that was met with applause.
The development comes amid growing conversations within the All Progressives Congress (APC) over potential candidates for the 2027 Lagos governorship election, with Hamzat widely speculated to be a leading aspirant.
