Cardi B filed for divorce from her husband, Offset, on Tuesday, September 15, in Georgia—but we’re just now getting some new details about what led her to make the decision.
E! News reports the paperwork filed states that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” and that “there are no prospects for a reconciliation.”
According to multiple outlets, trust is lost in the relationship.
“Cardi does not trust Offset. She’s really tried for the last two years and has tried to forgive him,” a source told the outlet. “It’s been hard for her since the last cheating scandal and there have been rumors of him being unfaithful again.”
Another source told People something similar about Offset’s alleged infidelity. “Offset has pretty much cheated the entire time, but Cardi looked the other way because of the baby,” the source said. “She also didn’t want to be embarrassed. But she’s had enough.”
Apparently the split is “very shocking to everyone around them,” per the source who spoke to E!: “They have been living together, parenting Kulture, and seemed to be doing fine from an outsider’s perspective.”
The source continued, “He has been pleading with her that he hasn’t, but many girls have come forward with claims. She had enough and decided to file…. [Cardi B] wants to be a good example for her daughter and women out there.”
Back in April 2018, Cardi addressed one of the previous times Offset had been accused of cheating on her and why she decided to stay with him. “It’s like everybody is coming down my neck like, ‘Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem,’” she told Cosmopolitan. “I don’t have low self-esteem. I know I look good. I know I’m rich, I know I’m talented. I know I could get any man I want—any basketball player, football player. But I want to work out my shit with my man, and I don’t got to explain why.”
Cardi continued, “I’m not your property. This is my life…. I’m going to take my time, and I’m going to decide on my decision… It’s not right, what he fucking did—but people don’t know what I did, ’cause I ain’t no angel.”
Cardi and Offset have not yet commented on their reported split.
