Miss Universe South Africa Mia Le Roux has sparked reactions on X after withdrawing from the international competition.
The Miss Universe South Africa organisation announced Le Roux’s withdrawal on Friday.
The statement was shared on the organisation’s official Instagram page saying, “It is with deep regret that we share the news that Mia Le Roux, Miss South Africa 2024, has had to withdraw from the Miss Universe competition due to health concerns.”
In the post, Le Roux expressed her gratitude saying, “I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time at Miss Universe.
“Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed upon me. However, I am deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so that I may continue to serve my country with full strength.”
Le Roux’s exit comes after a turbulent year for the Miss South Africa pageant.
Chidimma Adetshina who has both Nigerian and South African roots withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition following backlash over her nationality.
The controversy intensified when the South African Home Affairs Ministry launched an investigation into claims that her mother might have engaged in identity theft.
Despite the challenges Chidimma competed in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant where she secured the crown.
